The ACL injury to Gavi while on international duty in November last year came as a huge blow for FC Barcelona.

The 19-year-old had been an undisputed starter for Xavi Hernandez and his absence was certainly felt in the second half of the season as the Catalans ended without any trophies.

Gavi has been working hard on his recovery and has recently started some light training while slowly increasing the intensity.

Return in October or November

However, as per Mundo Deportivo, there is still a long way left on the road to recovery for Gavi as the Barcelona wonderkid is expected to be back only in October or November.

Given that the Spanish international had begun some individual training there were hopes that the midfielder could return earlier, even though it was always likely that he would miss the start of the season.

But, Gavi is unlikely to be back in action at least until October, meaning new manager Hansi Flick will have to make do without his services for the first three months of the season.

What is clear, though, is that the German tactician rates Gavi very highly and sees him as an integral part of his plans for the future at Barça.

The Blaugrana also consider the La Masia graduate as an ‘untouchable’ and will soon begin work to renew his contract, which expires in the summer of 2026.

There were some concerns about his registration as a first-team member with La Liga in the summer, but it has been suggested that Gavi’s registration is under no threat.
