Ilkay Gundogan was one of Barcelona’s standout players last season, contributing over 15 goals and assists while showcasing his versatility by excelling in various positions.

Despite his immense contributions, recent weeks have seen considerable speculation about the German midfielder’s future at Barcelona.

There is talk that the midfielder might depart if a substantial offer is tabled, given that this would help free up a lot of space on the club’s wage bill.

Gundogan’s potential move appeared more plausible considering the depth in the attacking midfield department, with Pablo Torre likely to stay put and Dani Olmo recently being signed.

Gundogan erases doubts about a departure

Speculation about a potential move intensified following Ilkay Gundogan’s recent trip to Turkey. However, it was merely a brief time off granted by Hansi Flick, and Gundogan has no current plans to play in the Turkish League.

Indeed, the Barcelona midfielder has come out to dispel doubts about an exit this summer.

“Someday I can be transferred to the Super League (Turkish league) but it will not be this summer,” Gundogan told A Spor upon landing in Istanbul.

The 33-year-old’s uncle and agent Ilhan Gundogan acknowledged to Sky Sports Germany that some clubs showed interest in the midfielder’s services, but he has no intention of leaving Barcelona anytime soon.

“It is true that some clubs have shown interest in Ilkay and want to sign him, but Ilkay’s position is very clear: he will stay at Barcelona. He is looking forward to the new season in Spain and to helping Barca achieve their goals for the season,” he affirmed.

Having proven his worth for Barcelona last season, Gundogan is aware that he can continue playing at a high level.

Moreover, the former Manchester City captain is highly regarded by Hansi Flick, who knows him well from their time with the German national team.
