Barcelona midfielder Pedri’s Euro 2024 campaign came to an early end when he picked up a knee injury in the quarterfinal.

The midfielder was subsequently diagnosed with an internal lateral sprain of his left knee, which initially ruled him out for a period of at least six weeks.

However, in a recent interaction with fans on The Residency (h/t SPORT), Pedri sounded fairly optimistic about a speedy return to the pitch while confirming that he is recovering well.

Pedri on his recovery

I feel better every day. I’ve just started the holidays, but every day I train to recover and start the season at the top,” Pedri said.

“At first, I knew that he had done something to me that was going to prevent me from continuing to play,” he added.

Talking about missing the semifinal and final in Euro 2024, the midfielder said, “The first days were hard, especially because I couldn’t help the national team in the semi-finals and final of the European Championship, but the team was top and we won anyway.”

“I took advantage of those days to support my teammates and work with the physios at the beginning of the recovery,” he added.

With less than a month left before the season kicks off, Barcelona are counting on Pedri to return to action as soon as possible.

Pedri’s ambition going forward

Apart from offering an update on his recovery, Pedri went on to lay down his ambition going forward.

The Spaniard stressed the desire to win the Champions League and the FIFA World Cup.

I’ve already won a league with Barça and a Euro with Spain. Now, for the Champions League and the World Cup,” he said.

The midfielder, though, refused to distinguish between the UCL and the World Cup, adding, “Why choose between the Champions League or World Cup? It would be like choosing between dad and mom.”

It will be interesting to see how Pedri’s recovery progresses in the coming weeks. The youngster, for his part, will be hoping to be available for Barcelona’s opening La Liga game against Valencia on August 17.

Barcelona, though, are likely to play caution in regards to Pedri’s recovery, given the way the midfielder has struggled with injuries in the past.
