Barcelona are in the market for a defensive midfielder in the summer as they look to fill the hole left by Sergio Busquets’ departure last year.
With Oriol Romeu’s signing not working out, the Blaugrana are looking for another signing in the position and several names have been linked with the club.
One of the names most prominently linked with Barcelona is Everton’s Amadou Onana. The Belgium international is a player who is well-liked at the club offices and is seen as a priority target.
Onana ‘winks’ at Barcelona
Onana is a man in demand with other teams in the Premier League, such as Arsenal, also interested in his services.
However, the 22-year-old has dropped a major hint about his preference to play for FC Barcelona through his activity on social media, reports Mundo Deportivo.
As per the report, Onana only follows FC Barcelona and La Masia on Instagram, giving a ‘nod’ towards where his preferences might lie.
Apart from Barcelona, the only other clubs that the midfielder follows are Everton, his current team, and Lille, his former employers. He also follows the Belgian national team.
Deal difficult
While Onana might be hinting at his preference to sign for Barcelona, a deal will be more than straightforward.
As per MD, Everton value their midfield asset at around €46 million (£40 million), a figure that the Catalans are unlikely to match owing to their financial issues.
There has been talk of the Blaugrana offering a player in exchange to drive the asking price down, with names like Clement Lenglet, Ansu Fati, Sergino Dest, and Fermin Lopez being mentioned as possible makeweights.
It remains to be seen how things proceed, with the club’s financial situation likely to dictate whether Barcelona go after Onana or not.
