Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong recently made a return to the team for his medical check-up ahead of the season, where initial images revealed a swollen ankle

It must be remembered that De Jong sustained a grade two ankle sprain on April 21 during the El Clasico at Santiago Bernabeu, following a tough tackle by Federico Valverde.

This injury was compounded by previous setbacks to the same ankle earlier in the season, all stemming from impact injuries.

The club acknowledged the unfortunate recurrence, attributing it to sheer bad luck rather than suggesting any chronic issues, a notion firmly denied by their medical experts.

His return, however, sparked criticism regarding his fitness level, but the club promptly clarified that de Jong’s injury had significantly healed, attributing the minor swelling to the natural process of returning to match fitness after nearly three months on the sidelines.

Leading to the story, according to a report from AS, de Jong himself views the speculation about his ankle’s condition as unwarranted and unfair.

Despite the fact that the club has assured he will resume group training within a few days, the midfielder expressed frustration over recent rumours, particularly highlighting his dedication to a gradual recovery process rather than rushing back prematurely to training.

Frenkie De Jong never gets along with the media

It must be noted that the relationship between de Jong and the media has been tumultuous recently and the latest reports questioning the state of his ankle have unsettled the Dutch midfielder once again.

It is worth noting that the Dutchman had aimed to be fit in time for the Euros, but this does not imply another extended absence, contrary to some speculative claims.

Club sources indicate that he is expected to rejoin training alongside his teammates in approximately 10-15 days, aligning closely with their upcoming tour of the United States.
