Coach Xavi Hernandez has faced his fair share of criticism since taking over the helm at Barcelona in November 2021.
But despite his flaws and strengths, the prevailing consensus has always been that Xavi has hardly been stingy when it comes to giving minutes to youngsters.
As such, his minimal usage of Marc Casado this season has been a perplexing sight, especially considering Barcelona have direly needed a defensive midfielder following Sergio Busquets’ departure.
Casado’s future at Barcelona is in doubt
Indeed, according to Mundo Deportivo Marc Casado’s renewal with the Catalan giants is failing to progress.
While Barcelona holds the authority to prolong the young midfielder’s contract, which is due to expire in June, no action has yet been initiated by the club’s higher-ups.
Today, it is unclear what the youth squad’s future holds. It appeared at the start of this campaign that he would finally get his big break, but in reality, he is not getting the opportunities he wants.
Casado had accrued 24 caps without making his La Liga debut with the first team and only got the go-ahead to play the final eight minutes against Atletico Madrid in March. He has also been scarcely used in the Champions League.

La Liga teams interested
Reports have previously stated that Marc Casado is seeking playing time and possibilities, and a number of La Liga teams, including Granada and Valencia, are interested in signing him.
Casado turned down various offers in the last two transfer windows, but with Barcelona yet to take action over his continuity, Casado may be tempted to hit the exit door this time around.
