Dani Olmo was the only Barcelona player to start Spain’s game against Denmark last night, and the performance he dished out was one to remember.

Luis de la Fuente had Pedri and Marc Casado on the bench last night, both of whom came on in the second half. Barcelona’s other regular internationals were unavailable with Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres injured and Pau Cubarsi excluded for precaution.

Olmo, however, had other plans on the field and led from the front without his other club teammates.

One of the best players on the pitch

In 70 minutes against Denmark, the Spanish international recorded two key passes created one big chance and completed 89% of his passes. Further, he had two shots and one successful dribble.

He was a constant menace for the Danish defence with his runs off the ball and supreme quality on it and always looked for the most lethal pass on offer.

Needless to say, he got his flowers in the second half when he eliminated the Danish defence and laid the ball on a platter for Ayoze Perez to score the team’s second goal.

Olmo has been on a sublime run of form since Euro 2024 where he was the top scorer in the event. His transfer to Barcelona has also worked out wonderfully as the player has started life in the Catalan capital in grand fashion.

He now has five goals in La Liga and is the team’s best attacking midfield presence by far. With club football returning in just over a week, Hansi Flick will hope he returns to Catalonia fit and raring after Spain’s next game against Switzerland.
