Barcelona have lost out on an opportunity to replace Marc Guiu and Pau Victor, as Marc Domenech, an 18-year-old forward, has signed a contract renewal with Mallorca, claims a report from Mundo Deportivo.
Barcelona’s interest in Domenech surfaced a couple of weeks back, with the Blaugrana launching an official offer for the forward.
The offer was reportedly worth around €300,000 which was rejected by Mallorca right away.
The reason why Mallorca were not interested in doing any business was because the forward had a release clause worth €1 million and they thought Barcelona’s offer was too low.
Barcelona tried not once, but twice
Interestingly, the team from Catalonia did not sway away and decided to go for the player once again. While the exact amount of the bid is unknown, Barcelona’s immediate need for a forward could have been the driving factor behind this idea.
This new offer from Barcelona not only benefited Mallorca, but it was equally beneficial for the 21-year-old.
Amidst the Barcelona offer, Mallorca continued to work in the background and the team has now tied him down to a long-term deal. Interestingly, this happened a couple of days before he trained under the first team coach Jagoba Arrasate.
It must be noted that Domenech’s previous deal was set to expire in 2027, but a renewal means he is now tied to Mallorca until 2029.
Furthermore, the 18-year-old, who was the top scorer in Group III of the Youth Division of Honor last season, now also has a new release clause in his contract, which is reportedly worth €4 million.
Right now, Barcelona lack options to strengthen Barça Atletic. The initial idea was to juggle Guiu between the youth team as well as the senior team, but he has now moved to Chelsea. Pau Victor, on the other hand, has moved back to Girona.
