As reported earlier today, Barcelona are planning to reinforce three key positions in the squad when the summer transfer window rolls around in four months.

The idea is to sign a new defensive midfielder, a left-back, and a left-winger, along with the permanent acquisitions of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.

The left wing is seen as an important position in need of reinforcement as Barça lack a natural wide player on that side. As such, they are looking for a player who can impact proceedings in the same way as Lamine Yamal is doing on the right flank.

Kaoru Mitoma on the radars

To that end, Ferran Correas of SPORT is reporting that Barcelona are monitoring Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma as an option.

Mitoma, 26, joined Brighton in the summer of 2021 and after a season away on loan, the Japanese international has become an integral part of the Seagulls’ setup under manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Since the start of last season, the winger has scored 13 and assisted 14 goals for Brighton across all competitions, standing out as one of their best players.

Mitoma, whose market value stands at €50 million, signed a new contract with Brighton in October last year, committing to the Premier League club until 2027.

Barcelona have had their eyes on Mitoma for some time now and are continuing to monitor the winger ahead of the summer.

But considering their financial situation, any move for the Japanese international could be expensive. As such, the report from SPORT states that there may be a possibility that Barça could include Ansu Fati as part of the deal for Mitoma.

Fati, a graduate of the club’s La Masia academy, is currently on loan at Brighton in search of regular game-time after enduring a difficult last season.

The 21-year-old has had a mixed time in England, with his season overshadowed by an injury problem. Barça are open to selling him permanently in the summer for around €30 million and could offer him to Brighton if they decide to pursue Mitoma’s signing.
