Barcelona’s search for a new pivot midfielder for the summer transfer window is no top secret. It is seen as a top priority by the defending La Liga champions before the onset of the next season.

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has been scouring the market for potential options, with names such as Amadou Onana, Joshua Kimmich, Martin Zubimendi, and Mats Wieffer, among several others.

However, with the financial situation at the club being as it is, low-cost options are also being looked at, with Arsenal veteran Jorginho a possible target.

Guido Rodriguez back on the agenda?

Now, journalist Gianluigi Longari reports that Barcelona are also carefully monitoring the situation of Real Betis and Argentina midfielder Guido Rodriguez.

The 30-year-old has been linked with the Blaugrana in the past as well, but nothing really materialised. However, his name appears to be back on the agenda at Can Barça.

Rodriguez, who won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022, has a contract with Real Betis that expires at the end of the ongoing season, meaning he would be a free agent in the summer.

There has been no progress made as far as a possible renewal is considered, and as such, there is a good chance the defensive midfielder will move on once his current deal runs down.

Even though Barcelona are looking for a top-level pivot, they are still closely monitoring the situation of Guido.

The 30-year-old has plenty of experience at the highest level and could be a good low-cost signing and a short-term fix until the Catalans’ finances are in better shape, allowing them to go after an elite signing.
