After Ronald Koeman claimed earlier today that Barcelona are still inferior to Real Madrid, another club legend, Rivaldo, has stated that the Catalans need a few signings in order to compete with their rivals.

The former Ballon d’Or winner insisted that even if Barcelona sign Nico Williams they would still need at least one or two more additions to their roster to be able to go toe-to-toe with the reigning Spanish and European champions.

“Although I have a great affection for Barça, I can’t lie: Real Madrid are ahead. If Nico Williams goes to Barça, it will be a positive thing, but I still believe that one or two more signings need to be made to be that team that enchanted the world,” he said.

The 2002 FIFA World Cup winner insisted that Barcelona must not only make signings but also show intent on the pitch, especially in Clasico clashes against Real Madrid.

“To change the trend you need to sign players and then, see what happens at the beginning of the season and in the direct duels against Real Madrid,” he insisted.

“Of course, you can’t talk about what hasn’t happened yet, but Barça needs to prove with its game that it can be as strong as Real Madrid. On paper, with the signing of Nico, it would be strong, but, in practice, they would have to prove it, especially in the Clásicos.”

Not stopping at that, Rivaldo went on to mention the positions that Barcelona need to strengthen, claiming that two defenders and a striker must arrive in the summer window.

“Barça must sign two defenders and a striker to strengthen the squad,” he remarked.

“Lewandowski is a world star, he’s like that, but sometimes we know that age and injuries can take their toll.”

Rivaldo against the idea of signing Joao Felix

The Brazilian also went on to state that Joao Felix is a very good player but has not done enough to be at Barcelona, stating:

“Joao Felix is undoubtedly a great player… but I think he has to do something else to play at Barcelona. To stay at Barça you have to stand out, you have to score goals, you have to make the fans happy. Joao Félix hasn’t played well at the Euro.

“And last season he played good games with Barcelona, but he was also on the bench in other games.”

“And to be a Barça player you have to be a player who can be an absolute starter. Barcelona need players who can make a difference. Joao is a great player, but he has to give something else. He has to do much more than he did last year,” he concluded.
