Thiago Alcantara’s addition to Hansi Flick’s coaching staff was indeed a surprise, but it is safe to say that the former midfielder has been brought in with a clear purpose.

According to a report from SPORT, Thiago has become one of the main supporters of the young players in the team and the midfielders, in particular, see him as a role model.

Flick relies on him not only to understand more about the inner workings of Barcelona and La Masia but also for consultations and advice.

Interestingly, Thiago’s knowledge of La Masia, where he grew up, has made him essential in his initial weeks at the club.

More than a translator

Initially, he was brought in to help Flick and the staff communicate with the squad. The German coach is not yet comfortable with Spanish, and Thiago is responsible for giving explanations and details of the exercises. However, his role goes much further.

Flick constantly relies on Thiago, not only to learn more about Barça and La Masia but also for advice and consultations.

It is clear that the manager would love to have him as a permanent part of his team, but for now, the collaboration has an expiration date. Thiago’s role is like that of a ‘master,’ helping the former player transition into coaching.

“He helps us a lot in many things. Not just the midfielders, but everyone. But he tries to help us midfielders to make the passes that he made,” said Marc Casado recently.

A role model for young players

During the match against Manchester City, Thiago was seen giving instructions to Hector Fort on his way to the tunnel.

Flick is very impressed with the level of the youngsters brought up in the Barça youth team and knows that Thiago, with his experience, is a model who can be important in getting the best out of them.

Marc Bernal, Marc Casado, Unai Hernandez, and others are valued by the coach, who undoubtedly sees Thiago’s advice as invaluable.

Thiago’s integration into the coaching staff is more than just a temporary arrangement; it is a strategic move to enhance the development of young talents.

His understanding of the club’s culture, combined with his ability to communicate effectively with the players, has made him a key figure at the club in such short time.
