A change of face on the Barcelona bench naturally means a change in the outlook of the squad.

One of Xavi Hernandez’s great dreams was to unite with Manchester City ace Bernardo Silva.

But having hit the exit door, his dreams of dressing Silva in a Blaugrana jersey may not be able to come to fruition now.

Bernardo Silva not a priority for Hansi Flick

Indeed, upon arriving as Xavi’s replacement, Hansi Flick is estimated to have his own unique vision for the team.

And according to SPORT, Bernardo Silva is not a priority for the German manager.

Unlike Xavi, Flick does not consider the Portuguese midfielder’s presence a determining factor for next season.

Although Bernardo’s signing would significantly bolster the team’s quality, given his pedigree and versatility, there are other pressing areas to draw attention to first.

Moreover, Bernardo’s reported release clause of €58 million is still a hefty number for the Catalan giants, who remain embroiled in a financial crisis.

Still, reports of Barcelona being able to pay Manchester City €19 million in three equal instalments, as per a special clause in Silva’s contract, may come in handy down the line.

Flick’s plan for next season

Reports have argued that Flick intends to play with a double pivot in a 4-2-3-1 system, which also explains why he does not deem Bernardo a quintessential piece in his puzzle.

While the 29-year-old has experience playing in all areas of the field, Barça have ample options to deploy in midfield.

Furthermore, the manager sees the signing of a new pivot and a winger as priorities. And as such, even though there is the possibility of signing Silva on favourable terms, it is not at the top of the agenda at this point.
