Earlier this month, reports emerged in Spain claiming that Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, currently on loan at Getafe, is a serious target for FC Barcelona.

The 22-year-old is performing well in La Liga after close to two years without playing any form of professional football as he was facing charges of attempted rape and assault in England.

With seemingly no way back at Manchester United and his contract expiring in 2025, Barcelona were understood to be looking at him as a low-cost option to reinforce the attacking department.

Barcelona not pursuing Greenwood

However, now, Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona are not interested in signing Greenwood from Manchester United in the summer and have other targets on their agenda.

The speculations about a move for Greenwood had risen after it emerged on Monday that Barcelona director Deco held a meeting with his Manchester United counterpart John Murtough and the Red Devils’ director of negotiations, Matt Hargreaves.

Despite the meeting, though, Romano states that the Blaugrana are not pursuing a move for the English attacker at this point.

Since joining Getafe on loan last summer, the 22-year-old Manchester United academy graduate has netted eight goals and set up five more in all competitions, giving a good account of himself.

And, as per Romano’s update, the Premier League club remain open to offloading him permanently in the summer.

However, Barcelona are not pursuing the 22-year-old Englishman at this point and have other targets on their wishlist.

Three priorities

As reported earlier, the reigning La Liga champions have three major priorities for the summer transfer window.

For starters, Barcelona wish to sign Joao Cancelo on a permanent transfer from Manchester City while a top-level pivot midfielder and a left-winger are also seen as key purchases for the summer.

As such, Greenwood does not appear to fit in those plans at least now. Whether things change in the weeks to come will be interesting to see.
