This past summer saw promising La Masia striker Marc Guiu leave FC Barcelona to sign for Premier League giants Chelsea.
The Spanish centre-forward had a renewal offer from the Blaugrana but opted to sign for the English heavyweights, who paid his €6 million release clause.
Barcelona not surprised by Guiu’s struggles
However, since leaving Barcelona, Guiu has had a challenging start at Chelsea. The forward left with high expectations but has encountered a harsh reality in London.
Indeed, the Spanish youth international has only participated in four matches, totalling 168 minutes, and has not scored any goals.
Now, according to SPORT, at Barça, they are observing his evolution from afar and are not surprised by how things have gone for Guiu.
With Guiu’s situation, the Catalans are seeing the potential risk of a player leaving the club at 18 years old for a seemingly more attractive proposal.
Chelsea have kept its word of integrating the player into the first team dynamics, but manager Enzo Maresca has largely overlooked him.
In his interview with Barça One, club president Joan Laporta explained that “they bought Marc Guiu from us” by paying the release clause of €6 million.
The president does not regret not trying to retain the player with a more lucrative offer: “For me, a player who wants to leave Barça has the doors open.”
Barcelona are no longer concerned about Guiu’s trajectory at Chelsea: “He’ll find out for himself because there’s no place like Barça.”
This message is directed at youth academy players who might be tempted by foreign offers.
