Barcelona are reportedly on the verge of securing Wojciech Szczesny as their new goalkeeper, according to SPORT journalist Luis Miguelsanz.

The outlet mentions that the shot-stopper is in advanced discussions with the Blaugrana, with both parties focused on finalising a deal for the current season.

One of the key aspects being discussed is an affordable salary, which is believed to be around €3 million gross until June, plus additional bonuses.

Szczesny, who had recently retired to focus on his family, has shown great interest in this opportunity. The possibility of reuniting with his national teammate Robert Lewandowski and the allure of life in the Catalan city have tempted him to reconsider his retirement plans.

However, certain details still need to be worked out, particularly regarding his release from Juventus.

Szczesny must finalise his settlement with Juventus

Barcelona initially reached out to Szczesny earlier this week to gauge his interest, and the Polish keeper quickly expressed a willingness to enter talks.

Despite having made the decision to hang up his gloves just a few weeks ago, the chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe has rekindled his passion for the game.

Barça have responded by offering him a short-term contract with a reasonable salary, and it seems that both sides are keen to finalise the deal soon.

However, one obstacle remains—Szczesny’s contract situation with Juventus. The goalkeeper had a year remaining on his deal with the Italian giants, and while the parties agreed on a severance package for his early departure, there is a clause that affects the situation

Juventus included a condition that if Szczesny signs for another club, he would lose out on certain financial benefits. Therefore, Barcelona and Szczesny’s representatives are working hard to ensure the numbers make sense for everyone involved.

It is said that Barcelona are eager to wrap up the negotiations quickly and expects a resolution this week. The deal, if finalised, will initially cover just this season, but there is a possibility of extending it if things go well.

Barça are already considering their long-term goalkeeping options for next summer, but the arrival of Szczesny could shift their focus. Both parties are keen to come to an agreement soon, and while discussions are progressing positively, nothing has been fully settled yet.
