It has not even been six months since Pau Cubarsi broke into the scene in La Liga and became an overnight sensation in Spanish football.

Mesmerising onlookers with his work ethic, commitment and talent, Cubarsi has indeed been one of the rising stars in European football this year.

From being a mere prodigy in the youth department, he has become a defensive lynchpin for Barcelona’s senior team. And his rapid rise to prominence hasn’t gone unnoticed either, with clubs taking note of his situation in the coming summer.

Barcelona’s bumper offer to Cubarsi

However, as reported by AS, Barcelona are ready to seal the future of Cubarsi by handing him a bumper contract offer.

Cubarsi is only 17 right now and is not eligible to sign a contract longer than three years. Barcelona, though, have readied a five-year contract once the youngster comes of age in January 2025.

The deal from Barça could see Cubarsi earn a progressive salary, which will increase with each passing season.

Cubarsi’s salary next year could go up to €4 million, it would reach up to €12 million by 2028/29.

Barcelona have come up with this strategy to both reward the player for his progression and to make sure that the player remains at Camp Nou in the years to come.

What about the release clause?

In recent years, Barcelona, with great liberty, have employed the strategy of adding a €1 billion release clause to the contract of their youth prodigies.

A similar strategy will be employed on Cubarsi but with a slight tweak. The defender’s current release clause of €10 million could go up to €1 billion.

However, it would increase progressively, but will never remain below €500 million at any point in time.

The renewal of Cubarsi is a priority for Joan Laporta and the Barcelona board, as they look to safeguard the future of La Masia graduates.
