According to journalist Jota Jordi, Barcelona are growing optimistic about signing Manchester City forward Erling Haaland and believe he will play for the club in a year and a half.

A few days ago, we reported that Barcelona, after missing out on Haaland in 2022, now have a roadmap in place for his acquisition.

It is understood that the Blaugrana are aiming to secure his signature in the summer of 2025, timing it with the end of Robert Lewandowski’s guaranteed contract (with the option for the 2025-26 season).

By then, the revenue from Spotify Camp Nou should be substantial enough to facilitate Haaland’s arrival, making him one of the marquee signings for the revamped stadium.

The Laporta x Pimenta bond

Sporting-wise, Haaland moving to Barcelona makes absolute sense. Not only will the forward act as a capable replacement for Lewandowski, but this move will also be Barcelona’s answer to Real Madrid’s signing of Kylian Mbappe.

In Barcelona, they are well aware of Haaland’s situation. His agent, Rafaela Pimenta, and her partner, former Barcelona player Maxwell, had a meeting in Barcelona on February 29 with Deco to discuss various matters, including Haaland’s situation.

Meanwhile, It is worth noting that Pimenta has a strong relationship with Joan Laporta and she expressed her admiration for the Barcelona president, stating:

I always say that Laporta can’t ask me for anything in football, it’s not fair, because he knows I’m going to say yes.

Why the sudden interest?

By 2025, Laporta will find himself nearing the end of his presidential tenure. This creates a compelling reason to push hard for Haaland.

Furthermore, the Premier League’s ongoing investigation into Man City for financial irregularities adds to the drama. There is talk of a deadline in October 2024 and even the possibility of expulsion from the competition.

Barça are closely monitoring these developments and with all this uncertainty, Haaland could be tempted to leave, especially considering his affinity for Spain.
