In recent developments, it has been learned that Clement Lenglet appears ready to extend his contract with Barcelona in order to facilitate a move to Atletico Madrid this summer.

According to journalist Roger Torello from Mundo Deportivo, Lenglet has come around to the idea that for him to join Diego Simeone’s team, Barcelona first need to renew his contract so that his salary is adjusted as per the team’s convenience.

It is said that initially, Lenglet was hesitant about this approach. He was not keen on the idea of extending his contract just to help Barcelona spread out his salary over a longer period.

However, after understanding the situation and the club’s financial needs, he has started to see the logic behind it. This adjustment in his stance has been a crucial factor in moving the negotiations forward.

While Barcelona were initially resistant to the idea of Lenglet moving to Atletico Madrid, they have eventually agreed to the transfer, especially after the player himself lowered his demands.

The situation took a turn when Barcelona received a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia for the defender, which he turned down. This refusal might have prompted the French international to reconsider his options, leading him to agree to a contract extension.

His current deal with Barcelona runs until 2026, and by extending it, the club can manage his high salary over a longer period. This strategy also helps Barcelona stay within the financial fair play rules.

After a lengthy negotiation process, it seems that both parties are nearing an agreement and if all goes well, Lenglet’s transfer to Atletico Madrid could soon become a reality, bringing him closer to joining the team this summer.

The deal is edging closer, with just a few details left to iron out.
