In a recent update by Gabriel Sans on Mundo Deportivo, it has been revealed that Oriol Romeu, a midfielder who had fallen out of favour, has found new support under the guidance of Hansi Flick.

This support means that Romeu’s future with the club is looking much more secure for the new season.

Romeu is set to begin his second season at Barcelona, and he has earned the approval of Flick. As a player who came up through the youth ranks, Romeu now knows that he is part of the German coach’s plans.

Flick has been working with the team at the Ciutat Esportiva since Thursday, and it is clear that there is no intention of transferring Romeu unless a significant offer comes in to change the current plan. Right now, such an offer is not on the horizon.

Flick is impressed by Romeu

Romeu’s journey back to Barcelona came with a three-year contract that includes a hefty buyout clause of €400 million, signed in 2023. The cost of his move from Girona was set at €3.4 million.

While there have been whispers that Michel, Girona’s manager, would like to see Romeu return, it appears unlikely that the club would be willing to spend heavily on a player who is nearing the latter stages of his career.

Meanwhile, Flick has been particularly impressed with Romeu. He sees the midfielder as a valuable asset, someone who brings unique qualities that can bolster the team’s midfield, which is in need of more physical presence.

It is worth mentioning that when Romeu first rejoined Barcelona, then-manager Xavi initially gave him a starting position. However, over time, Romeu saw less and less playing time.

There was some speculation about Romeu’s future with the team, especially with the pre-season tour in the United States starting on July 28. It was thought that Flick might want to assess Romeu during this tour.

However, sources indicate that this assessment will not take place because the decision about Romeu’s future has already been made.

The only scenario that would change things is if a financial offer comes in that is too good to refuse. Even in that case, his departure would have minimal impact on the club’s Financial Fair Play calculations.
