Journalist Luis Miguelsanz, writing for SPORT, has revealed that Barcelona outcast Clement Lenglet’s potential transfer to Atletico Madrid is intricately tied to the departure of Joao Felix from Diego Simeone’s squad.

It is no secret that Barcelona are currently making significant efforts to finalise several exits. Among these, the loan deal for Lenglet to Atletico Madrid is one of the most advanced, but its success hinges on Atletico’s ability to sell Felix to Chelsea.

The proposed sale of Felix to Chelsea involves a transfer fee of around €35 million, plus an additional €30 million in performance-based variables. However, this deal has hit a snag, causing a delay in the negotiations.

If Felix does leave Atletico, it will open the door for Lenglet to join the Colchonero defence, a move that both parties seem to favour.

Lenglet’s exit is crucial for Barcelona

For Barcelona, offloading Lenglet is a crucial part of their transfer strategy, largely due to his substantial salary.

The club is actively seeking solutions to make this loan deal feasible for Atletico, as it would significantly benefit their financial situation and align with their sporting interests.

One potential solution being explored is the possibility of Lenglet renewing his contract with Barcelona, which would involve deferring some of his current salary and reducing his overall wage.

This adjustment would make the loan move more attractive to interested clubs, including Atletico, who have already indicated the maximum financial commitment they are willing to make.

The club has been eagerly awaiting progress on this front since the previous weekend, but the delays have caused some anxiety within the organisation.

There is hope that the matter will be resolved this week, with Lenglet reportedly in favour of the loan move. Joining Atletico Madrid would allow him to play for a top-tier team under the guidance of Diego Simeone, potentially securing regular playing time.
