Barcelona are planning to enter negotiations with superagent Jorge Mendes to improve Lamine Yamal’s contract terms, a report from La Vanguardia claims.

The 17-year-old wonderkid, who signed a deal until 2026 last year, is currently earning less than €2 million per year.

The initial three-year contract length was the maximum allowed by law for underage players when Yamal signed last year.

As has already been confirmed though, the existing deal, signed when Yamal was still a minor, includes a preliminary arrangement with his agent Mendes to extend the contract until June 2030 once the player turns 18.

Despite the pre-existing arrangement, the Catalan club are keen to meet with Mendes during the current season to discuss an improved salary for the young sensation.

The planned discussions reflect Barcelona’s commitment to securing the long-term future of one of their most promising talents.

However, the report adds that formal talks have not yet begun, even though there was a recent meeting held between senior club officials and Mendes.

Instead, negotiations over new deals with other key players, including Pedri, have taken priority at Barcelona for the moment. Nevertheless, the Blaugrana are expected to initiate discussions with Mendes in the near future.

Yamal, for his part, has expressed his desire to continue his career at Barcelona, where he has already made significant strides since breaking into the first-team setup under former manager Xavi Hernandez.

Already counted as one of the best young wingers in the game, the 17-year-old recently admitted that he would love to spend his entire career at Barça and be recognised as a club legend.

“I would like to be remembered in Barça’s history as a legend. Thanks to Barcelona, I am who I am. They’ve given me everything,” said Yamal.
