Barcelona planning massive 2025 operation to combat Real Madrid’s Mbappe move – report

While Barcelona continue to suffer in financial ruin, Real Madrid are enjoying the freedom of seemingly limitless wealth.

After the signings of Aurelien Tchouameni, Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler for massive fees in recent years, they are set to rope in Kylian Mbappe, Alphonso Davies and reportedly Leny Yoro this summer.

The addition of three bonafide superstars will elevate Los Blancos’ squad to the next level, pulling them away from the competition in Spain. Barcelona president Joan Laporta, thus, reportedly has a plan to counteract Real Madrid’s signing of Mbappe.

Operation Haaland

As revealed by Defensa Central, Laporta is eyeing Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland as a new signing in the summer of 2025.

In fact, he is willing to throw the kitchen sink in his bid to bring the Norweigan striker to Spotify Camp Nou, even mortgaging the club’s future if need be.

The objective is to rope in a name who can headline a rivalry with Mbappe as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo did in the last decade. Considering the club’s finances, however, pulling off such a massive heist appears nearly impossible.

Haaland’s desire

As revealed earlier this week, former Barcelona scout Bojan Krkic Sr made a bold statement about the Manchester City star and claimed that he dreamt of playing for Barcelona.

“Haaland prioritizes Barça. His desire is to play for Barça. It could very easily happen that he signs for Barça in 2025/26, the summer of next year,” he said.

If indeed the player desires to represent the Catalan colours, the negotiations will not be very complicated for Laporta to pull off. The competition from Real Madrid and their financial muscle may prove to be the only hurdle.

The only question from Barcelona’s perspective, however, is whether the club’s finances can recover to such an extent in one year.
