Barcelona players are convinced that a member of Xavi Hernandez’s staff has been leaking sensitive information to the press, journalist Javi Miguel claimed on El Chiringuito TV.
In fact, over the past two months, an internal investigation has been conducted within Barça to identify the ‘mole’ that has been leaking information to the media.
In order to identify the leak, the phones of all staff members were collected and someone trusted by Xavi went through their WhatsApp conversations to check if anyone had been communicating with certain journalists.
Javi Miguel went on to state that the Barça players are convinced that the leak is one of the manager’s staff members and not a player. As such, there is a division created within the locker room.
In fact, the last three meetings between Xavi and the Barça squad have been with the manager and the players alone.
No other members of the coaching staff have been involved, as they suspect that one of them has been leaking sensitive information to the press.
Javi Miguel also claimed that Xavi himself had reached out to a few journalists and asked them to reveal their source. When they did not respond, the club threatened to take away their access to press conferences if the matter did not stop.
It is not entirely a new issue at Barcelona, with previous managers also having experienced this. Only a couple of years ago Ronald Koeman had unearthed a mole in the dressing room that was leaking his team selections and other sensitive information to the media.
However, Javi Miguel went on to add that Xavi & co. have not been successful in identifying the leak at this point yet.
