Barcelona’s ideal goal before the 2023/24 season ends is to convince Xavi to continue at the club beyond the summer as the head coach.

The Spaniard announced his departure in January following the loss against Villarreal, and has since confirmed many times that he will not retract his decision regardless of how the season ends.

The team, presumably under not as much pressure now, are playing better football. They are currently on an undefeated streak of ten games, including a 3-1 win against Napoli in the Champions League and a 0-3 win away from home vs Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona administration desperately want Xavi to stay as the manager, but are preparing contingency plans in case they fail to convince him.

Plan Pini Zahavi

According to a report from Catalunya Radio, as relayed by SPORT, Barcelona have already made contacts with priority target Hansi Flick through his agent Pini Zahavi.

The agent is apparently on great terms with Laporta, and also helped push the Robert Lewandowski transfer from Bayern Munich over the line in 2022.

Previous reports had also stated that Flick has been doing ‘extensive research’ on Barcelona. He had inquired about the club, the squad, and even about the city.

The German definitely seems to be interested in the idea of coaching Barcelona and has already started planning his potential staff should he be appointed.

Other options?

Looking for a new manager, Barcelona have not cornered themselves to one man or philosophy. They have a few options on the table, including Roberto de Zerbi, Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann, and Luis Enrique, among others.

Bringing in de Zerbi, though, will be difficult, as he has a release clause of around €13 million. He also seems bound to Brighton & Hove Albion for now, even though Bayern Munich are interested in him to replace Tuchel.
