Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, is feeling positive about the club’s chances of signing Nico Williams from Athletic Club this summer, confirms Alex Pintanel

It is no secret that Nico is Barcelona’s top priority as he is seen as a perfect match for the team, especially alongside his friend and teammate, Lamine Yamal.

However, there is some concern within Barcelona’s management about competition from Paris Saint-Germain. The French club has shown interest in Nico, which worries some of Barcelona’s directors.

Interestingly, despite the player’s release clause standing at €58 million, PSG are willing to offer him double the salary that Barcelona can propose, making their offer much more tempting financially.

PSG continue to push, but Barcelona remain confident

Adding to the challenge is the influence of PSG’s coach, Luis Enrique, who could be very persuasive in convincing him to join his team.

However, despite these concerns, Barcelona remain hopeful. Laporta believes that the club’s offer will be enough to attract the player and the team already has the necessary funds ready to trigger his release clause.

As of today, the Blaugrana are only waiting for a final decision from the forward.

Laporta is confident that Nico is interested in playing for Barcelona, and the club expects to receive a definitive answer from him in the coming days.

Barcelona will not put extra financial efforts

It must be noted that the president has emphasised that Barcelona will not engage in any bidding war for Nico’s services. This approach is grounded in the belief that entering a financial competition with PSG would likely result in a loss for Barcelona.

In his recent statement, Laporta also highlighted that Barcelona will avoid any actions that could disrupt their sporting structure.  Ultimately, the decision will rest with the player, whose desire to play for Barcelona could be the deciding factor.

Despite the financial lure from PSG, Barcelona’s optimism remains strong. They believe in their project and the appeal of joining one of the world’s most storied football clubs.

The coming days will be crucial as Barcelona await Nico’s’ final decision. The club’s hopes are pinned on his willingness to become a part of their future and contribute to their ongoing quest for success.
