The arrival of Hansi Flick should usher in a new era at Barcelona – a more pragmatic and direct Catalan side who will be hoping to restore the club’s lost glory, albeit in a different form.

However, in order to expedite the process, Flick would require proper support, especially from a board level.

Sporting director Deco is mostly in charge of transfers, but he lacks the presence of a supporting figure. Following the exit of Mateu Alemany in 2023, Alejandro Echevarria plays that role, but the Spaniard does not have a designated role.

Laporta considering bringing back Alemany

Keeping that in mind, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is considering bringing back Mateu Alemany as one of the club’s executives, reports Diario SPORT.

During his time in Barcelona between 2021 to 2023, Alemany was crucial in not only instigating transfers but also negotiating with football associations in order to ease Barcelona’s economic position.

That resulted in Barcelona bringing in a slew of talents, including the likes of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde, among others.

Barcelona would require a similar set of skills this coming summer, as the club once again look to navigate the economic challenges.

Will Alemany return to Barça?

As per the report, Barcelona have yet to make any official move to re-sign Alemany this summer. But there is a clear desire from Laporta’s end to bring back the Spaniard.

Alemany, for his part, is currently a free agent. He was closely linked with a move to Aston Villa at the time of his exit, but the move did not come to fruition.

However, Alemany has had no shortage of suitors since. Even now, Barcelona might face serious competition from RFEF and Atletico Madrid, in their bid to bring back the Spanish mastermind this summer.
