During an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona president Laporta touched upon the subject of the team’s relationship with Real Madrid and the Los Blancos’ influence on referees followed by their aggressive stance in the ‘Negreira Case’, something that the Blaugrana continue to criticise.

The president explained that as of today, the two Spanish giants do not share a good relationship thanks to their contrary views on the entire Negreira Case.

He asserted that what Real Madrid are accusing Barcelona of is what they are doing at the moment via Real Madrid TV.

“Today, there is no good relationship with Madrid because he [Florentino Perez] has appeared in the ‘Negreira case’ and what he is doing is an aberration.

“He has asked that the instruction be extended when there is nothing and they will find nothing because there is nothing,” he said.

Laporta added that the version provided by Barcelona is what it is in reality and those accusing the team do not have proper evidence.

“Our version is what it is and the contradictory versions or the versions that have been launched could not be proved in any way, because they do not exist.

“Here what we had was technical arbitration advice with reports and videos provided as evidence. And there they appear and what they want is to keep this alive to be able to say what they somehow preach.

That it is Barça who tries to influence the referees when that is what they are doing. And it is this double game that they are playing that I do not find correct.

“The relationship with Real Madrid is not good. They’re appearing in El Caso Negreira when it’s them trying to influence referees through Real Madrid TV, which I’m angry about. It’s a shame what they do,” he said.

Why is the Technical Committee of Referees not involved?

Speaking about the Technical Committee of Referees, Laporta mentioned that the matter has already been communicated with the party and they must be studying the case.

“It has already been spoken about. They must be studying it. Imagine if we were like this all day, they would have already criminalized and sanctioned us.

“I think that of course [the channel] deserves an exemplary sanction. I do not agree at all with how Real Madrid TV is acting on this issue because it can also adulterate the competition.”

On Super League

Lastly, Laporta also talked about the controversial Super League, a competition that Barcelona and Real Madrid currently walk hand in hand.

Speaking about it, the Barcelona president said the only reason they are involved in it is because it is in the team’s interest since it would rope in a significant amount of money within the club.

Well, that is a more economic issue or economic interest that we are there because it is in Barça’s interest. Thanks to the fact that we have won in the Luxembourg Court we have a credit right over UEFA.

If we had started that competition now, in two years we would have earned a lot of money. I do not want to say the figure because it oscillates according to the interpretations. It is a lot of money.

“It is a competition that now we will see how it evolves, but think that it will be a very attractive competition and I believe that it will start in 2025 in which the resistance of two clubs Barça and Madrid against those who made the stampede and UEFA, has given results,” he said.
