Barcelona president makes huge statement on club’s ability to sign Nico and Olmo

Close to half the summer transfer window is past us, and Barcelona are yet to make any groundbreaking moves in the form of either arrivals or departures.

Despite noise around possible big departures this summer, the Catalans are yet to finalise any such operation. There have been more concrete rumours on the arrivals front, but the operations appear to be limited by financial hurdles.

Yesterday, Barcelona made their first signing for the senior team in the form of Pau Victor. However, there is great optimism in Catalonia that the team can secure bigger names in the coming weeks.

Speaking to the media earlier today, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta was quizzed on the team’s economic situation and if the ongoing transfer market held any opportunities for the club.

“We can do any operation in the transfer market. Deco is working to improve the team we have. We will soon announce the economic news to undertake them,” he said with great optimism.

Laporta was then asked specifically about the team’s two top reported targets, Nico Williams and Dani Olmo, to which he said,

“Nico and Dani Olmo? Today Barça can deal with the signings you are talking about. We can make signings of great magnitude.”

As revealed earlier this week, Barcelona have reached an agreement with Williams’ agent over a five-year deal for his client. With PSG also entering the scene, the Blaugrana are eagerly awaiting the player’s decision.

Olmo’s transfer, meanwhile, is also progressing quite well with RB Leipzig looking to sell the player actively. However, they demand that the club meet their €60 million asking price while Barcelona are looking to bargain for a lower sum.
