Luis Diaz has been a long-time target of FC Barcelona. Long before the emergence of top target Nico Williams, it was the Colombian who had emerged as Barça’s desired attacking reinforcement.

Fast forward to now, Barcelona are still desperate to sign a new winger before the transfer market comes to an end. With Nico unlikely to leave, Barça are strongly considering the possibility of signing Federico Chiesa.

Barcelona’s failed move for Luis Diaz

However, as per SPORT, Luis Diaz remained on Barcelona’s backburner and the club, in fact, had even made an attempt to sign the Colombian this summer.

But the Catalans faced straight rejection from Liverpool, who deemed the player ‘non-transferrable’.

Although the Reds’ outlook might have changed since, Liverpool are unlikely to consider Diaz’s exit unless they receive a massive offer.

This is not favourable for FC Barcelona, as the club are not in a position to table a multi-million offer for the former FC Porto forward. Reports suggest the forward could cost up to €60-65 million.

What’s next for Barcelona?

Even if the Blaugrana manage to return to the 1:1 rule, the club must table a seriously lucrative offer if they are to woo Liverpool.

Given we are in the final stages of the transfer market, Liverpool are unlikely to even consider a reasonable offer for Luis Diaz, knowing they might find it difficult to find a replacement.

Barcelona, therefore, would perhaps be wiser to pursue other, more affordable targets in the market.

Kingsley Coman is a potential option for coach Hansi Flick, but the club, as mentioned earlier, are also open to making a move for Federico Chiesa.
