Barcelona prodigy receives standing ovation at the Bernabeu after stellar performance for Spain

Just 16 years of age, Lamine Yamal is doing special things on the pitch for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team.

The teenage wonderkid has already made himself a regular in the starting lineup for the Blaugrana and is making a mark with La Roja too.

Last night was one such occasion as Yamal dazzled brightly for Luis de la Fuente’s men in the 3-3 draw against Brazil.

Such was his performance that Yamal received a standing ovation from the fans at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid’s home stadium, after he was taken off late in the game, reports Mundo Deportivo.

A special performance

Having been handed a start by De la Fuente against Brazil, Yamal was at it from the word go and was Spain’s most dangerous attacking outlet.

Yamal had an involvement in all three of Spain’s goals last night for he forced the penalty from which Rodri scored the first goal, before assisting Dani Olmo for the second goal all in the first half.

The Barcelona sensation then showed his class again in the buildup to the move leading to the penalty for the third goal with a stunning outside-of-the-boot pass.

Yamal had the number of Brazil’s defenders in the left channel on the night, be it Wendell or Lucas Beraldo, as he danced circles around them time and again, with a few moves that even made fans jump out of their seats.

After a great physical effort, Yamal came off in the 92nd minute and was substituted to a standing ovation (at just 16 years of age) ‘Ronaldinho-style’ at the Bernabeu, in what was a special moment for the youngster.

What did Yamal say after the game?

Speaking after the match, Yamal stated that the match showed everyone that Spain have the capability to compete with any team on the pitch, as he said:

“It was a beautiful game for the fans. I’m happy because the team has shown that it can compete against any team.”

On how he manages to cope with the pressure and expectations of playing for Spain against a heavyweight like Brazil, Yamal replied: “I try to play relaxed and not be affected by what’s going on outside.”
