With Xavi Hernandez now set to continue as the manager of FC Barcelona, plans are underway to strengthen the squad suitably in the summer.

The manager has been clear about the fact that he wants a ‘top’ pivot midfielder in the summer as well as Bernardo Silva.

The signing of the Manchester City playmaker was discussed during last night’s meeting between Xavi and the rest of the club hierarchy.

Now, as far as the pivot is concerned, Mundo Deportivo has provided some details on how Barcelona might approach the situation.

Barcelona offer the possible signing of Guido Rodriguez to Xavi

As per the report, Barcelona have offered Real Betis and Argentina midfielder Guido Rodriguez as a possible signing for Xavi to reinforce the pivot position.

The 30-year-old defensive midfielder is in the final few months of his contract at Real Betis and appears set to leave the club as a free agent in the summer.

Rodriguez has been on Barcelona’s radar for some time now, although an injury earlier in the season had led to him dropping down their list.

But with the World Cup winner making a strong return and looking unlikely to renew, the midfielder’s name is back on the table at Barcelona.

Xavi is understood to prefer other names like Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad and Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich.

But, the financial situation at the club might not make it easy for them to sign them. As such, Rodriguez could be a realistic option for the Catalan heavyweights to reinforce the pivot position.
