Xavi Hernandez has changed his mind! While he was due to leave FC Barcelona at the end of the season, the Catalan coach finally decided to stay on the Barça bench for one more season.

The former midfielder was convinced by his president Joan Laporta. This Thursday, at a press conference, the Blaugrana legend explained the reasons for his choice but above all mentioned the double confrontation in the quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain.

For him, his team deserved better and was above that of Luis Enrique. “ Tactically, we were better than PSG, both on the outward and return legs. After Ronald (Araujo) was sent off, we should have competed more. But that’s part of the process. We, the staff and the players, have learned a lot. Next season we will be better able to compete,” did he declare.

Secure second place

Things are getting complicated for FC Barcelona. Defeated by Real Madrid during the previous La Liga matchday 3-2), the Catalan club is not yet guaranteed to finish in second place in the standings. Xavi Hernandez’s men are only two bridges ahead of Girona which is on the last step of the podium (70 points against 68 points).

This weekend, the Catalans will have to raise their heads and win against Valencia FC to consolidate their place as runner-up to Real Madrid, which is heading towards the title of champion of Spain.
