This means the the 18-year-old prodigy, who is currently part of the Barça Atletic setup will continue wearing the Blaugrana colours with an eye on joining the first team.
Prim always wanted to stay
Negotiations over a new deal for Pau Prim have been going on for months but an agreement was not yet finalised, leading to concerns about his future.
However, despite having other options, the youngster’s intention has always been to renew his contract and the club have total faith in his potential.
Xavi Hernandez had already included him in a friendly match the first team played against Vissel Kobe in Japan. Now, current manager Hansi Flick has included him in the Champions League B list.
Prim is known for his excellent vision and decision-making when distributing the ball. A player with Barça DNA, several La Masia coaches believe he has a profile similar to Sergio Busquets as per the report.
Fight for a first-team spot
This season, Pau Prim has become a fundamental pillar for Barça Atetic with Marc Casado and Marc Bernal moving up.
Following Bernal’s serious injury, the possibility of promoting Prim to the first team was considered, but ultimately other alternatives, such as Casado or Eric Garcia were chosen.
Once Andreas Christensen recovers, the Dane will be another option available to Hansi Flick, while the likes of Gavi and Frenkie de Jong are also back from injury.
As such, Prim will have a tough fight ahead of him to earn a place in the first-team setup at Barcelona. But an agreement over his renewal now finalised, the 18-year-old could see more involvement in the first-team dynamics.
