Barcelona may be preparing to offer Wojciech Szczesny a contract extension beyond the 2024/25 season, according to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo

Interestingly, the decision will depend on how well the Polish goalkeeper performs and adapts during his time at the club.

With Hansi Flick showing admiration for Szczesny, who has had an extensive career at the top level, the club is keen to see how he fits into their plans.

Although Szczesny has only signed a one-year deal, there is potential for an extension if he excels in his performances.

Having reversed his initial decision to retire, the goalkeeper is keeping his options open and is no longer committing to any final decisions about his future.

If he proves to be a solid presence between the posts, Barcelona will consider extending his contract, ensuring they have an experienced goalkeeper available until Marc-Andre ter Stegen returns.

When will he play for Barcelona?

Currently, Szczesny is registered for both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, but his availability for matches remains uncertain

Despite rumours that he could make his debut for Barcelona right after the upcoming international break, particularly in the clash against Sevilla, his readiness is still in question.

This is because the keeper is reportedly undergoing his own form of ‘pre-season’ training to regain full match fitness after briefly stepping away from football following his short-lived retirement.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will continue to monitor the 34-year-old’s progress, and if he manages to integrate smoothly into the squad and contribute effectively on the pitch, the club could offer him a renewed deal.

His presence would offer stability at the back, ensuring Barcelona have a top-class goalkeeper to rely on in crucial matches. For now, fans will have to wait and see how the situation unfolds, with his potential debut still pending.
