Despite reaching a new agreement with Aramark, reports yesterday suggested that Barcelona are still yet to return to the 1:1 rule.

This has perhaps forced the club to be extra desperate to sell more players by the end of the transfer window, as they look to generate fresh revenue.

As a result, the future of players like Vitor Roque, Ferran Torres and Raphinha have come into focus. But another player Barça could be open to selling is Frenkie de Jong.

Barcelona’s asking price for de Jong

According to the Daily Briefing, Barcelona have finalised an asking price for the Dutch international, whose sale could potentially unlock the key to return to the 1:1 rule.

As per the report, the Catalans are open to selling de Jong for a fee of just €60 million, which is significantly lower than what the club were looking for one or two years ago.

Barça’s renewed desire to sell de Jong comes on the back of reports earlier this week, which speculated that Manchester United have revived their interest in the midfielder.

It appears the Premier League giants want to shore up their ranks in midfield, with de Jong once again emerging as the ideal solution.

Man United, though, are only willing to offer a fee of around €30-40 million, which won’t cut it for Barcelona.

The Catalans are looking for a higher valuation, knowing de Jong still has an excellent market in Europe, despite his recent struggles with injuries.

Although de Jong’s presence could have been important in Hansi Flick’s setup, the midfielder’s departure could be more beneficial for the club.

That is because the Dutchman is by far the highest-paid player in the Barcelona setup. His exit, therefore, could significantly reduce the club’s inflated wage bill.

Moreover, the value of his transfer fee could go a long way in boosting Barcelona’s finances and helping them return to the 1:1 rule. This, in turn, could end a lot of problems for Barça.
