Barcelona have been all over the place in defence for most of the current season, which comes as a shock considering how rock-solid they were in the last campaign.
One of the reasons for the same could be the continued absence of first-choice goalkeeper and second captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The German international has been sidelined since November due to a back issue that required him to undergo surgery. Following that, it was expected that he would be out for somewhere around two to three months.
Ter Stegen ready to return in two weeks
Now, though, Barcelona have been handed a huge boost as Ter Stegen has confirmed that he can ready to return to action in two weeks’ time.
It was expected that the goalkeeper would be ready next month, in time to face Napoli in the UEFA Champions League. But it appears that Ter Stegen could be back before that.
Speaking at the Mundo Deportivo gala tonight, where he won the Best Goalkeeper Award, the German shot-stopper said: “I can be ready in two weeks. I have good feelings.”
This comes as a huge boost for Barcelona as Ter Stegen is a crucial player for Xavi Hernandez’s men.
The 31-year-old was one of the most prominent parts of the title-winning teams last season and his return can provide a great advantage for the Blaugrana for the rest of the campaign.
During Ter Stegen’s absence, Inaki Pena has been entrusted with the responsibilities in goal and he has done fairly well, although there have been some missteps along the way.
For now, the La Masia graduate will continue between the sticks for at least two more weeks until his senior is ready to return.
