With FC Barcelona eager to secure reinforcements on the left flank, the name of Xavi Simons has been doing the rounds quite a bit of late.
The versatile Dutchman, who is capable of playing in multiple positions in the attacking third, is a former La Masia trainee and knows the club well.
Simons has had an impressive season on loan at RB Leipzig but a return to PSG is not seen favourably by him.
It was widely suggested that PSG want to offload him permanently this summer instead of another loan exit and that talks were already underway with RB Leipzig for the same.
Loan deal seen as likely
However, the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano has come forward with a major update on Simons’ situation which will be seen as a boost at Barcelona.
As per the report, PSG do not want to sell Simons outright this summer. Furthermore, RB Leipzig would not be in a position to afford his permanent signing either.
On top of this, Romano also adds that as things stand, the most likely course of action as far as the Dutchman’s future is concerned is another loan exit.
This is where Barcelona enter the picture as they are pushing hard for a loan deal for the former La Masia ace. However, they will have to compete with Leipzig as well as some clubs in the Premier League.
Advantage Barcelona?
Romano goes on to add that Xavi Simons will have a say in his loan club for next season which might end up giving Barcelona an advantage.
That is because it is believed that the 21-year-old is eager to return to his boyhood club in the summer.
This update is in line with reports from Spain which suggested that there is a special clause in Simons’ PSG contract which allows him to choose his loan destination.
PSG and Simons want to sort out the situation before he departs for the Euros next month and it remains to be seen if he makes his way back to Barcelona, even if it is on loan.
