Joao Felix finds himself at a crossroads in his career, with his next move shrouded in uncertainty but influenced by clear preferences.

The Portuguese star is said to be firm in his decision not to return to Atletico Madrid, nor does he wish to linger until the final moments of the transfer window to secure his future.

Recently, speculation swirled around a potential reunion with Barcelona, a club where he spent the previous season on loan. However, talks have unexpectedly quieted on the Catalan front.

Meanwhile, Benfica, from his native Primeira Liga, has emerged as a sudden contender for his signature.

Reports from SPORT suggest that while Benfica have shown interest, the club is currently deliberating the feasibility of funding his transfer.

Not sure what to believe

In Portugal, conflicting reports abound regarding Felix’s potential move. Some sources claim Benfica are determined to pull out all the stops, considering an offer exceeding €25 million for a 50% stake in his transfer

Conversely, other reports suggest such a deal is nearly off the table due to financial constraints at Benfica. Nevertheless, consensus remains that Felix’s name remains prominently on the club’s radar.

Benfica’s next steps are pivotal and that could also shape Barcelona’s transfer plans. At present, the Portuguese team is keeping their options open throughout the transfer window, intending to offload several players to accommodate Felix within their squad.

The club’s leadership views his potential acquisition as not just strategic but as an unmissable opportunity in the market.

Atletico are helping Benfica

According to the outlet, Atletico Madrid’s accommodating stance is helping Benfica’s negotiation efforts. The Madrid-based club has prioritised Felix’s departure, providing a clear pathway forward while Barcelona remain in a holding pattern.

Barcelona, through agent Jorge Mendes, have expressed interest but signalled a preference for a loan deal until season-end, possibly with reduced wages—a scenario mirroring last season’s arrangement, necessitating financial concessions from Felix.

In this uncertain landscape, Felix patiently waits. While open to the prospect of returning to Benfica, he insists on specific sporting and economic conditions being met.

His primary desire is to don Barcelona’s colours, although he remains open to other European opportunities. Aston Villa have also inquired about a potential loan deal with an option to buy, underscoring Felix’s appeal across Europe.

Despite his wishes, Felix’s future appears destined for a prolonged saga, a scenario that could favour Barcelona in the long run.
