With the international break coming to a close, Barcelona have received a major boost in their preparation for the upcoming league game against Las Palmas on March 30, reports SPORT.
It appears Ronald Araujo has been discharged from national team duties with Uruguay. The player has returned to Barcelona to continue his preparation for the Las Palmas game.
How did Araujo fare during the break?
Despite being called up to the Uruguay squad by Marcelo Bielsa, Araujo was not involved in the squad that faced Euskadi, a Basque Country outfit, in a non-FIFA friendly.
But as Uruguay prepare for the upcoming friendly against Ivory Coast, coach Bielsa has relieved Araujo, along with four other individuals.
It appears Bielsa is well aware of Araujo’s unfortunate history with the national team, as the defender has often missed key matches due to injuries.
With the Copa America just around the corner, it seems the former Leeds United boss has taken the wise decision to relieve the Barcelona star of his duties.
Big boost for Barcelona
Araujo’s return could serve as a big boost for Barcelona as they look to maintain their solid form in the league.
The Uruguayan international’s form alongside Pau Cubarsi in central defence has played a central role in Barça’s revival during the second half of the campaign.
Coach Xavi, therefore, will be grateful to have Araujo’s services earlier than expected. Cubarsi, too, will soon rejoin the Barcelona camp, once Spain finishes their second friendly against Brazil this midweek.
Fortunately for Barça, the club are yet to face any major injury blow during this ongoing international break. Fans will keep their fingers crossed as we almost come to the end of the final break of the season.
