As Barcelona get started with their preparations for the weekend’s La Liga encounter against Atletico Madrid, they have received a fresh boost on the fitness front.
Indeed, injured forward Ferran Torres returned to group training today and did a part of the session with the rest of the team, reports Victor Navarro.
Torres has been sidelined since late January after suffering an injury in the game against CA Osasuna.
Initial expectations were that he could return in time to face Napoli in the UEFA Champions League, but the Spanish international went on to miss both the matches against the Serie A title-holders.
But, coming into this week, it was suggested that the 24-year-old could receive his medical discharge in time to face Atletico Madrid.
And it appears that everything is on track for Ferran to make his much-awaited return as he is participating in group training today.
Barcelona take on Atletico away at the Civitas Metropolitano on Sunday night. Having Ferran available for the contest will be a big boost for Xavi, as the Spaniard would add more options to the Catalans’ attacking arsenal.
Prior to his injury, the forward had been in decent nick. In all, the former Manchester City man has netted 11 goals and set up four more from 32 appearances in all competitions.
While Ferran may make a comeback, Barcelona will continue to be without the services of Gavi, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Alejandro Balde, all of whom are recovering from their injuries.
