After only fighting for domestic titles the last couple of seasons, Barcelona are finally in the run-in for the Champions League, pitched up against PSG for the quarter-finals of the competition.
This is the farthest they have made it in the UCL under Xavi after succumbing to the Europa League the last two seasons. And even that did not go particularly well, with Barça crashing out against Eintracht Frankfurt and Manchester United in successive seasons.
This did not bode well for Barcelona on any level, especially given the financial distress the team is suffering from.
Not being able to earn from the Champions League meant the Catalans did not meet the expected revenue and had to hold back in the transfer markets.
This season, though, the situation, is different. Barcelona seem to have come alive at the right time, and the money should not be a problem.
Barcelona pocket €74 million
Barcelona finished top of their group in the Champions League and qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition. They won four of the six games in the group, losing twice – once each to Shakhtar Donetsk and Royal Antwerp.
With this, and a win in the Round of 16 against Napoli, Barcelona were able to earn €74 million up until now in the Champions League, as per a report by MARCA.

So Manchester City, ranked at the top, earns €1.13 million multiplied by 32 (total number of teams in the competition). Bayern Munich are ranked second, so they earn €1.13 million multiplied by 31, then Real Madrid 30, and so on.
Barcelona are seventh, just below Atletico Madrid, so their revenue is multiplied by 26.
And the revenue increases as each team goes further in the competition. So for Barcelona, beating PSG in the quarter-finals and reaching the semis would do wonders for their financial strength.
