It has been an eventful day at Barcelona, to say the least. What began as a disappointing day with Nico Williams returning to training with Athletic Club turned into a special one as the club reached an agreement with Dani Olmo hours later.

The Spanish attacking midfielder is now expected to arrive in Catalonia later today and the deal appears closed for all practical purposes.

Yet, Barcelona refuse to give up on Nico who only earlier today sent a positive message to Athletic Club fans across the globe.

Fight till the end

As revealed in a recent update by SPORT, Barcelona will not allow Nico’s return to the Basque club facilities to detract them from their operation.

While the young winger is likely to continue with Athletic Club, the Blaugrana believe there is still hope and will fight until the very end.

Conversations with the winger’s entourage are still underway and will continue until the player firmly discards the Barcelona option, something he has not yet done.

With Olmo now signed, moreover, the club have an additional card to play and try to lure Nico to the club.

After all, the Spanish core of Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo and Fermín López could well catch his interest.

Economically viable

As revealed earlier today, Barcelona have done everything in their capacity to sign the Athletic Club star to this point.

From a financial standpoint, everything is ready to immediately trigger his release clause. Moreover, the club have even assured Nico that they can register him for La Liga without any hurdles.

Now just one step away from a further injection of €40 million, it is clear that the finances will not be an issue. All eyes are on the young winger’s next move.
