Barcelona’s 19-year-old prospect dreams of first-team breakthrough amid Premier League interest

Barcelona youngster Mika Faye enjoyed a special moment on Friday as he not only made his debut for the Senegalese national team but capped it with a stunning goal.

Signed from NK Kustosija in the summer of 2023, Faye has been a part of Barcelona’s reserve team, Barça Atletic, under the guidance of Rafa Marquez this season.

The 19-year-old has shown his talent and potential regularly with the subsidiary team and has been in and around the senior setup quite a bit, although without making his debut yet.

Faye dreams of first-team breakthrough

As such, Mundo Deportivo reports that Mika Faye dreams of making his first-team breakthrough with Barcelona in the near future.

A left-footed centre-back with pace, power, and physicality, Faye is adapting well to Barcelona’s way with the reserve team and has impressed the first-team coaching staff whenever called up to train.

While he did play in the friendlies against AC Milan and Club America last year, his official debut is yet to arrive. But he was part of the matchday squad against RCD Mallorca earlier in the week.

The path is not easy for Faye for Barcelona have a plethora of central defenders in Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Inigo Martinez, and Pau Cubarsi, who himself is enjoying a brilliant breakthrough.

Faye attracting interest from the Premier League

Thanks to his impressive progress, clubs in Europe have already taken note of Faye and have cast admiring glances towards him.

It must be remembered that Barcelona beat Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund to his signing in the summer while they also turned down offers worth €9 million from Ligue 1 in January.

Beyond that, the report from MD adds that clubs in the Premier League have also taken a liking to Faye’s talents ahead of the summer transfer window.

There have been reports of Tottenham being interested in the 19-year-old, who has a contract at Barcelona until 2027, which contains a €400 million release clause.
