Barcelona played their first pre-season game of the US tour last night against Premier League champions Manchester City.

A number of young talents got an opportunity to showcase their talent against one of the best teams in Europe and quite a few of them rose to the occasion.

However, young defender Mika Faye did not feature for Barcelona last night, missing the second game of the pre-season after not playing against UE Olot in the week gone by.

Faye to return vs Real Madrid

According to Mundo Deportivo, Mika Faye missed the Manchester City game as a precaution as he has been struggling with a minor physical problem.

The 20-year-old had been struggling with discomfort since last week after suffering a knock during training, which is why he did not play against Olot or yesterday against Manchester City.

But the good news is that Hansi Flick does plan to have Faye play in the Clásico against Real Madrid coming up later this week.

Barcelona will play their arch-rivals on Friday night (US time) at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and at the moment, everything suggests that Faye will be ready to play and will get minutes against Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Faye’s future a topic of debate

There has been a lot of debate and discussion surrounding the future of Mika Faye this summer. At one point, it appeared certain that the 20-year-old Senegalese international was set to depart for FC Porto but the move fell through.

Since then, it has been suggested that Barcelona might promote him to the first team, especially with manager Hansi Flick seeing him as an option for the centre-back and left-back positions.

However, there are no guarantees and a sale is still not entirely ruled out, considering that Barcelona still need to generate revenue. As such, much could depend on how the young defender performs on the pre-season tour.
