Barcelona’s summer has not quite gone to plan. The club is yet to confirm a big arrival, yet at the same time have struggled to seal any major departure from the squad.

Given the club’s financial situation, a big sale appeared to be imminent. Players, however, are understandably reluctant to leave and Raphinha is one such star.

The Brazilian winger, after all, enjoyed a decent season with the Blaugrana last time around and is only on the transfer market owing to his promising transfer value.

Moreover, talks of a new right-winger arriving only furthered the case for his departure.

Firm on his stance

As revealed in a recent report by MARCA, Raphinha does not intend to leave the Catalan capital at this point, especially given that he has a contract with the club until 2027.

The 27-year-old has rejoined the squad in Orlando ahead of the pre-season tour and has even begun training under Hansi Flick as of Monday. Needless to say, he is determined to prove his worth to the new manager.

Barcelona, for their part, are delighted with the Brazilian star for not just his dedication but also his versatility and quality. Flick, moreover, sees great utility in his profile as he can play on both wings and brings experience to the table.

Raphinha has offers from the Premier League and from Saudi Arabia as it stands but is not paying any attention to the approaches.

The Nico Williams case

It is safe to say that Raphinha’s future heavily depends on the arrival of Nico Williams for the Spanish winger is a direct competitor to his place in the starting lineup.

With the Athletic Club star’s future slowly moving away from Catalonia, however, the Brazilian star only stands to gain.

If indeed the young phenom does not sign for Barcelona this summer, Raphinha’s exit from the club can almost be ruled out especially considering his performances last season. After all, he was the Blaugranas’ best winger on the right under Xavi Hernandez.
