When Marc-Andre ter Stegen picked up a long-term injury earlier in the season, many doubted Inaki Pena’s ability to replace the German in between the sticks.

In fact, Barcelona even roped in Wojciech Szczesny as an alternative to Pena, in case the Spaniard failed to deliver.

However, as we approach the final two months of 2024, Pena appears to have repaid the faith with a series of excellent performances in between the sticks.

His most recent display of brilliance came in the recent El Clasico, where the Spaniard made a few important saves to keep a clean sheet.

Inaki Pena on the radar of two European clubs

Inaki Pena’s performances have not gone unnoticed either, with a recent report from Fichajes offering a rather interesting piece of insight.

As per the report, two European giants are keeping tabs on Pena, in light of his recent performances for Barcelona.

These two clubs in question are none but Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, two clubs managed by former Barcelona managers Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique.

Both see Pena as an excellent alternative to their respective first-choice goalkeepers. PSG, in fact, had already bagged the services of a Barcelona goalkeeper in Arnau Tenas last year. They are now eyeing a move for Pena, as a potential alternative for Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Will Barcelona sell Pena?

Earlier in the month, it was reported that Barcelona would be open to selling Inaki Pena if they bring in reinforcements in the goalkeeping department next summer.

However, the same report had also suggested that Pena’s future at the club would depend on performances.

And judging by the Spaniard’s recent displays, it won’t be surprising to see Barcelona make a U-turn and try to keep hold of the player. A lot, though, may depend on whether or not Pena can continue his excellent run of form throughout the course of the campaign.
