Earlier today, FC Barcelona finally confirmed the signing of Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig, with the Spanish international returning to the Catalan club ten years after leaving La Masia.

Olmo, 26, spent seven years on Barcelona’s books between 2007 and 2014 before leaving for Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16 years.

Having spent almost six years in Croatia, the attacking midfielder signed for RB Leipzig in January 2020, but has been constantly linked with a move back to Barcelona ever since.

Both the player and the club have been trying to make it happen for a while now and managed to finally complete the reunion this summer.

Plan for Olmo to retire at Barcelona?

Olmo has signed a long-term contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2030 which has a release clause worth €500 million embedded in it.

Now, SPORT reports that Barcelona’s idea is for Olmo to retire at the highest level at Spotify Camp Nou in the future.

Indeed, the Olmo operation is seen as one of present and future by the Catalans. Due to his age, the Blaugrana youth player is going to have a long career at Barça and is destined to be one of the benchmarks of the project in the short and medium term.

If Olmo stays for the entire duration of his contract until 2030, he will be 32 years old at the time and entering the final phase of his career.

And it appears that the plan is for him to hang up his boots at Camp Nou provided things go well in the years to come. If not that, the idea would be for him to at least spend his best years at the club.

With Olmo’s signing now in the bag, Barcelona will shift their focus towards Nico Williams as the Catalans strive to add the Spanish winger to their ranks.
