With just a couple of weeks remaining before the winter transfer window slams shut, Barcelona have clearly expressed their desire to sign Marcus Rashford.

The Manchester United forward is available in the market after being frozen out of the team by new coach Ruben Amorim.

However, Barça have faced multiple setbacks in their bid to sign Rashford, including competition from some of the top clubs across Europe, including Borussia Dortmund.

Another problem for Barcelona is their wage bill, which must be reduced in order to sign the Englishman. That is where the club are considering the possibility of offloading unwanted players in the team, with Ansu Fati topping the list.

Fati disrupting Barcelona’s Rashford pursuit

However, as pointed out by SPORT, Fati is playing a key role in disrupting Barcelona’s desire to sign Rashford.

That is because the Spaniard has no intention of leaving Catalonia in the middle of the season, even though Hansi Flick has clearly told him he won’t count on his services during the remainder of the campaign.

Without the sale of Fati, it is practically impossible for Barcelona to loan Rashford for the rest of the season.

But as things stand, the La Masia attacking outcast is determined to stay with the Blaugrana and fight for his place in the team.

So what’s next?

Should Fati continue to reject the idea of leaving Barcelona this month, the club’s only real option will be to find another player who will.

Eric Garcia is the first name that comes to mind. Although Flick is not too keen on letting go of the former Man City defender, Ronald Araujo’s continuity might force him to do so.

Garcia has been strongly courted by his former club Girona, but it remains to be seen whether or not the two Catalan clubs can reach an agreement in the final 10 days of the transfer market.

It must be noted that Garcia’s departure may not have the same impact as the exit of Fati. But it, nonetheless, be interesting to see whether the defender’s sale can help Barça sign Rashford.
