A recent report from The Athletic confirms that Barcelona view Gavi as a future captain of the club. The 20-year-old midfielder has always been seen as a key player, and the club firmly believes he will take on the captain’s armband in the future.

It must be noted that in November 2023, Gavi – rated €90 million by Transfermarkt – suffered a significant setback with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. This happened at a time when he was finding his best form on the pitch and his voice as a leader off it.

Despite the injury, his influence within the team was growing, and many saw him as one of Barcelona’s best players, especially in the Clasico defeat in October. After that loss, Gavi took responsibility and spoke to the media, demonstrating maturity beyond his years.

A cule through and through

One of the reasons Barcelona see Gavi as a future captain is his strong connection to La Masia, the club’s prestigious youth academy.

Being a graduate of this system has naturally put him in the spotlight as a player who understands the club’s values. The management is confident that it’s just a matter of time before he takes on a leadership role.

Additionally, Gavi has proven his leadership qualities on multiple occasions. In one instance, at the request of manager Xavi, he addressed certain key players who were not meeting the team’s standards

He spoke up, expressing his concerns and pushing them to improve their performance. This boldness and willingness to take charge, even at a young age, has impressed both the club and his teammates.

How is Gavi’s recovery going?

In terms of his recovery, Gavi is making good progress. He has returned to group training for the first time since his ACL injury. After undergoing surgery, he worked tirelessly on his rehabilitation, and his determination has pushed him to meet the deadlines set for his return.

His much-anticipated return to full fitness is just around the corner, and Barcelona fans will be eager to see him back on the pitch soon.

With his leadership abilities, work ethic, and connection to the club, it’s easy to see why Gavi is viewed as Barcelona’s future captain.
